With this connectivity, a large number of passengers will be benefited as people travelling from different parts of Delhi would be able to directly access the newly opened Sohna-Dausa stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is developing an extended linkage between the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) Flyway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway for a seamless connectivity.

This extension is being developed in three packages.

According to NHAI officials, the works on all three segments are simultaneously underway with an overall project cost estimated at Rs 5,063 crore.

The authority is building a 9 km six-lane elevated corridor between DND Flyway and Jaitpur along the Yamuna River, which will be only for the expressway traffic.

The second package from Jaitpur to Ballabhgarh, will span 25 km, with the existing bypass being made a six-lane signal-free stretch for expressway traffic.

For local traffic, the NHAI is constructing service roads of three lanes each on both sides.

The network will be further extended from Ballabhgarh to Sohna with a stretch of 26 km, where it will be connected to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The third package is the link set to open this week, reports TOI.

Later, another addition was made to provide connectivity to the upcoming Jewar airport from the expressway as well.

Decongesting Delhi Traffic

With this connectivity, a large number of passengers will be benefited as people travelling from different parts of Delhi would be able to directly access the newly opened Sohna-Dausa stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

At present, commuters from Delhi can access the Delhi-Mumbai expressway by passing through the city across the Delhi-Gurugram expressway, which starts at Dhaula Kuan and terminates on the outskirts of Gurugram.

The planned Connectivity

About three lakh vehicles daily take the National Highway (NH) 8, which connects Delhi with Mumbai.

This is one of the reasons for congestion on this stretch. This new link will decongest NH-8 and will also help reduce traffic congestion in Delhi.

The over 59-km-long highway project will start at Delhi Ring Road-DND junction and cross through Kalindi bypass and Faridabad-Ballabhgarh bypass, as it ends at the interchange Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway or the Western Peripheral Expressway (WPE).

As per NHAI officials, this connectivity will also help decongest the Ashram-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh stretch of NH-44.

The DND Flyway is an eight-lane expressway that links Delhi to Noida, with connections from Maharani Bagh and Nizamuddin on the west side to Noida and Mayur Vihar on the east side of the Yamuna River.

The direct connection with the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway – from DND to Jaitpur, from Jaitpur to Ballabhgarh and from Ballabhgarh to Sohna.

Furthermore, the localities of New Delhi, Gurguram, Sohna, Faridabad, Palwal District, amongst others, are going to witness an incremental demand for real estate development and commercial investments with the opening connectivity between the Delhi and Mumbai. (read more on this)

The direct connectivity through these expressways will facilitate the increased traffic expected with the growth of these specific locations.

It will ease vehicular movement by allowing to bypass the internal areas of Delhi, which are already under pressure of vehicular traffic.
